I’m in last place; it’s no time to panic, yet, but I am

- BY CHARLES WHISNAND

So much for my theory of having a 4-way tie, minus David Horowitz who’s seeking a threepeat, of course in which everybody finishes with a 5-5 record every week.

My fellow prognosticators took on the challenge of week 2 and made a mockery of my attempt to make sure everybody goes 5-5 every week.

Mary Quijas of Juicy

Burger, Dustin Della of Suncrest Bank and Horowitz of Horowitz Jewelry all went 9-1 last week.

Yours truly and J.R. Flores of J.R.’S Barbershop both went 8-2.

I’m still kicking myself for picking Houston to beat Baltimore. Like those offensive coordinators who decide to call a reverse that leads to a 10-yard loss when their teams are marching down the field or call for a 40-yard pass when they need five yards, I tend to outthink myself at times.

I also know after just two weeks into the season it’s no time to panic but I’m sure the talking heads this weekend will be talking about how this team or that team is in trouble even though it’s just two weeks into the season.

Like with ESPN’S Tom Jackson (there’s my cheap shot at ESPN, the network I love to hate) said after the opening game of the season in which the New England Patriots lost to the Buffalo Bills 31-0 Bill Belichick had lost the locker room.

The Patriots just went on to win the Super Bowl that year and by the way in the final week of the season they beat the Bills 31-0.

Or the time all the talking heads were talking about how the Patriots dynasty was over after they were routed by the Kansas City Chiefs and oh my goodness Tom Brady was actually benched in the fourth quarter. Never mind it was like 40-something to little or something and there was no reason to play Brady and risk an injury. Of course the Patriots went on to win the Super Bowl that year too.

So when it comes to any fall of the Patriots dynasty like Yogi Berra says, “it ain’t over ‘till it’s over.”

But I’m still panicking because I’m afraid I am again on my way te becoming the “Best Last Place Picker in America.” I know I’m just two games out of first place behind Mary and Dustin and just one game behind David and J.R. but I’m still worried.

Anyway again we ask you frequent our fearless Prognosticators businesses whenever possible while following current guidelines. And we hope you all have a blessed week.
