Toys for Tots in need of donations

Drive Thru Toy Drive to be held Friday, Saturday

- THE RECORDER recorder@portervillerecorder.com

Although this has been a difficult year, the U.S. Marine Corp Reserve Toys for Tots for Southeastern Tulare County will still again hold its toy distribution campaign.

The campaign will again work through the local schools for referrals to distribute toys to those families. Each child referred by a teacher includes the brothers and sisters ages newborn to 13 who will be receiving toys.

In order to maintain safe practices the referrals will go out to the participating schools and each teacher will select the students, then the forms will be picked up and returned to the Toys for Tots warehouse. The volunteers will work to bag the toys for all the students. The schools will pick up the toys and as the selected parents come by the schools to pick lunches and school materials, they will also pick up their bag of toys.

Each Toys for Tots Unit must raise its own funds, which is going to be a challenge this year, said coordinator Grace Munoz Rios.

There will be a Drive Thru Toys Drive, Friday, October 23 and Saturday 24 from 3 to 6 p.m. at 368 East Date Avenue. The first 25 to donate on each day will receive a Toys For Tots momento bag. Monetary donations will also be accepted.

Donations can also be made at www. toysfortots.org. Select California, then Tulare County Southeast-porterville.when the Web Page comes up, select Donate Local and the donation will go directly into the account.
