Russell Clellon Gray
Russell Clellon Gray, a resident of Porterville, California, passed away on November 24, 2020, at the age of 75. He was born on September 10, 1945 to father, Elwyn Russell Gray and mother, Laura Ann Gray in South Gate, California.
Russ served in the United States Army as a part of the 187th Airborne infantry regiment in the 101st Airborne Division and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. He went on to work as a California Highway Patrol officer, a truck driver, and retired as a warehouse operator from Walmart Distribution Center after 15 years.
He was an avid motorcycle and automotive enthusiast. He enjoyed sports - especially watching the National Football League and professional tennis. He had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed traveling, and in his retirement started to do more international travel to Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, China, Vietnam and Mexico.
He was a man of integrity and virtue. He was truly known for his unwavering kindness, absolutely forgiving nature, and outstretched hand of generosity. He was everyone’s “Uncle Russ”.
Russ is survived by his sister Joyce Gray Nelson; his life partner, Alice C. Solis; his daughters Christina Maldonado, Destiny and Deeandra Hernandez, Michelle and Patricia Gray; son, Nathaniel I. Castillo; and five grandchildren.
His Christian burial and Military Honor Guard will be held on December 11, 2020. The viewing will be held at Porterville Funeral & Cremation
Center from 9:00am to 12:00pm with a graveside service at 12:30pm at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery to follow. Face masks and social distancing are required at both locations.
