John Facenda could narrate ‘This Week in Prognosticators’

- By CHARLES WHISNAND cwhisnand@portervillerecorder.com

We need the ghost of John Facenda to come back and narrate “This Week in Prognosticators.” Complete with the dramatic music composed by Sam Spence, who wrote so many of those great musical pieces for those NFL Films highlight shows.

Facenda could start out by saying “The autumn wind is a Prognosticator.” Right up there with Roger Staubach’s Hail Mary, Dwight Clark’s

The Catch, the Immaculate Reception and the Music City Miracle is now the Prognosticators weekend of December 12-13.

It will be a weekend forever remembered in the annals of the Prognosticators contest. It was that weekend in which the Prognosticators contest became a dramatic four-person race with the potential of leading to one of the most dramatic finishes in Prognosticators history.

We evidently have you readers to thank for provide Dustin Della of Suncrest Bank with a lot of business because it appeared he was distracted by serving a lot of customers. Our fearless leader cam back crashing down to earth as he went just 2-7 last week.

So Della, who’s had been ahead all season, now all of a sudden finds himself tied with J.R. Flores of J.R.’S Barbershop. J.R. Flipped Dustin’s record and went 7-2 last week and now finds himself tied with Dustin for first place at 80-53-1.

But what’s more Mary Quijas of Juicy Burger and David Horowitz of Horowitz Jewelers are now just one game behind Dustin and David. David Horowitz had an even better week than J.R., going 8-1 to thrust himself back into the race at the title.

Horowitz posted the best record of the Prognosticators last week and is now 79-54-1 on the season. Quijas went just 4-5 last week, but that was still good enough to move one game within Dustin and J.R. also at 79-54-1. So we now have a problem as the threepeat Horowitz so desires is definitely a reality again. So we again are asking for the suport of our loyal readers.

We know the guidelines are stricter now, but we’re asking our readers to please distract Horowitz as much as possible by providing him with as much business as possible that’s allowed. We can’t allow Horowitz to three-peat.

As far as yours truly, of course I’m maintaining my position as the “Best Last Place Picker in America” as I went 4-5 last week and am now 68-65-1 on the season.

Anyway we continue to encourage our readers even with the stricter guidelines to patronize the businesses of our Prognosticators whenever possible while following the guidelines. And as always we wish you a blessed week.
