It aint’ over until it’s over and anything can happen

- BY CHARLES WHISHNAND

We’re sure Dustin Della of Suncrest Bank already has a place lined up in his office to show off his Fearless Prognosticators Championship Trophy.

But there’s still one more week left in the Prognosticators contest so of course, it ain’t over until it’s over, anything can happen or fill in the blank with whatever cliché can be used.

We would like to thank the readers for distracting David Horowitz of Horowitz Jewelers from his quest for a threepeat. At least that’s what must have happened.

We’ll take credit for encouraging our readers to get in their early Valentine’s Day shopping, giving David plenty of business so he would be distracted when it comes to his picks. David made a serious late season run at accomplishing a three-peat until he uncharacteristically struggled with his picks last week.

In can hear the ghost of John Facenda’s voice now: “All the hopes and dreams of a jewelry nation came crashing down during a fateful penultimate week.” (I told you I love using the worl penultimate).

David went just 3-6 last week and fell five games behind Dustin in the chase for the Prognosticators title. But at 87-65-1 on the season, we’re sure David hasn’t given up yet. A fivegame swing is unlikely, but it can happen and we’re sure David knows that.

But Dustin did return to the form he has had for most of the season to retake control of the Prognosticators contest going into the final week. He went 7-2 last week and is now 92-60-1 for the season.

The prognosticator who has the best chance to catch Dustin is J.R.

Flores of J.R.’S Barbershop. J.R. Fell three games behind Dustin after going 5-4 last week and is now 89-63-1 on the season.

Mary Quijas of Juicy Burger surely also hasn’t given up yet either as she’s four games behind. Even though she struggled last week at 4-5 and is now 88-64-1. But we’re sure Mary also still believes she can still win this thing with an outstanding finish to the season.

Yours truly would like to officially declare himself as the “Best Last Place Picker in America” for the second straight year after tying Dustin for the best mark last week at 7-2. I’m now 8171-1 on the season.

As always we encourage our readers to patronize the businesses of our prognosticators while following current guidelines. And as always we hope you have a blessed week.
