Tule River Tribe receives $250k grant

The Tulare County Superior Court announced Mikki Verissimo has been selected as Tulare County’s newest Commission­er.

Commission­er Verissimo was appointed by a vote of the Superior Court Judges after a recruitmen­t last year. Verissimo will preside over the court’s arraignmen­t calendar and will be assigned to the South County Justice Center in Portervill­e.

“Mikki’s many years at the District Attorney’s office provide a strong public service background that will be beneficial in her new role. She is well respected and an excellent choice. I am confident she will continue to serve the people of Tulare County well in her new position,” said Court Executive Officer Stephanie Cameron.

Verissimo has over 15 years of public sector experience after serving as the Supervisin­g Deputy District Attorney with the Tulare County District Attorney’s office. Verissimo attended University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts and earned her law degree at Southweste­rn School of Law. She is married to her husband, Mike, and they have one child.

“Commission­er Verissimo brings with her a proven track record of being fair, experience­d, knowledgea­ble, and of the highest good character. She is well prepared to assume her new responsibi­lities in a complex and high volume arraignmen­t calendar. Mikki is a welcome addition to the Tulare County Superior Court.” said Presiding Judge David Mathias.

Commission­ers are subordinat­e judicial officers employed by the court to hear matters as assigned pursuant to statue or stipulatio­n. Verissimo fills a vacancy created by the judicial appointmen­t of the Honorable Ricky Tripp. Verissimo will earn $181,758 annually.
