The Poppies

To Home Depot who through its Operation Surprise campaign presented the Portervill­e Fire Department with a $1,000 check.

To all those who assisted with and donated to the Operation Christmas Child program, provided shoeboxes of needed items and toys to children all over the world.

To the Tule River Tribe who received a $250,000 state grant to identify clean, renewable energy solutions.

To Portervill­e High senior Karlie Wanmer who has signed to play water polo at Biola University.

To Summit Charter Intermedia­te Academy students Caylie Fleischman and Madison West for their community projects. Fleischman began a Facebook campaign which led to donations for Christmas stockings at Sierra Hills and Bella House. West collected toys and other items for children at Valley Children’s Hospital.

To Harmony Magnet Academy for being named as an Honor Roll School by Education Results Partnershi­p.

The Poppies recognize those for their community service and those in the area for their achievemen­ts and appear in The Recorder every Friday.
