Rain finally coming to the area

A good amount of snow in the mountains, too

Winter is finally arriving. A series of storms which began on Friday was expected to last through Thursday of next week. One of the storms early next week will be a cold, wet storm. The series of storms is also expected to bring a good amount of snow to the mountains as well.

The National Weather Service forecast called for the possibilit­y of a tenth to a quarter of an inch of rain in Portervill­e on Friday. The forecast also called for a the possibilit­y of a tenth to a quarter of an inch of rain on Friday night.

The storms are expected to slow down until the end of the weekend. As of Friday morning there was a 40 percent chance of showers today and a 30 percent chance of showers on Sunday.

But then another major storm is expected to arrive late Sunday night. The forecast calls for the possibilit­y of a quarter of an inch to a half inch of rain after 10 p.m.

The temperatur­es will also drop over the next couple of days. Friday’s high was expected to be 58 with a low of 40. Today’s high is expected to be 52 with a low of 37 and Sunday’s high is expected to be 53 with a low of 38.

But Monday is really when a cold, wet storm is expected. Monday’s forecast calls for showers mainly before 4 p.m. with the possibilit­y of another tenth to a quarter inch of rain. There’s a 30 percent chance of rain Monday night.

But it will also be cold Monday night

with the temperatur­e dropping to the freezing level at 32 degrees. Monday’s high is expected to be 45.

It will also be considerab­ly cold in the mountains as the forecast on Monday calls for an overnight low of 18 at Camp Nelson.

Another big storm is expected Wednesday and Thursday. Showers are likely Wednesday with a quarter to a half of inch of rain possible. The forecast also calls for the possibilit­y of another quarter to a half an inch of rain on Thursday.

Throughout Friday, three to four inches of snow was possible at Camp Nelson. Friday’s high was expected to be 45 and the low was expected to be 25.

Temperatur­es will also dip in Camp Nelson over the next couple of days. Today’s high was expected to be 38 with a low of 22. Monday’s high is expected to be 30.

Not much snow is expected throughout the weekend but then a sizeable storm will arrive late Sunday night. Three to seven inches of snow is expected at Camp Nelson after 10 p.m.

Two to four inches of snow is expected Monday. A big storm is also expected to arrive in Camp Nelson on Wednesday. The National Weather Forecast stated the snow could be heavy at times through Wednesday.

On Thursday rain and snow is likely and again the National Weather Service stated snow could be heavy at times although only about a half to three quarters of a inch of precipitat­ion was expected.

On Friday, snow levels were expected to drop as low as 3,000 feet.
