Alice C. Solis, a resident of Porterville, California passed away on Monday March 8th, 2021 at 65. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Alice was the matriarch and the beating heart of the family. She was the go-to person when you needed a helping hand and always welcomed everyone with open arms. She raised her four kids and had a hand in raising her siblings and many extended family members. Alice’s house - that she shared with her life partner Russ - was always “home base.”

Alice excelled at many kinds of crafting and loved puzzles, baking and cooking. She was especially skilled at crocheting and always hand-crafted many Christmas gifts and presents for her grandchildren. Alice excelled at Christmas and was Santa Claus for everyone; Christmas will not be the same without her. She loved reading, gardening and watching her favorite TV shows with her little dog, Henry by her side. Alice spent many years working as a waitress and a caregiver. At 50, she inspired her family by going back to school and completing her AA degree from Porterville College. She then transferred to Cal State University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts and graduated with honors on the Dean’s list.

In all things, Alice was a hard worker, dedicated and generous. She always helped not only family members in need, but she adopted families in need during the holidays by providing turkeys and bags of groceries at Thanksgiving or providing a tree, trimmings and gifts for multiple families at Christmas time. She had a deep commitment to giving back to her community and in her retirement volunteered at Sierra View Hospital as a Pink Lady for over five years. She was an active member of her Church at the Poplar Assembly of God.

Alice was born in Lockney, texas to parents, Manuel and Teresa M. Castillo, both from Pharr, Texas. She is survived by her children, Christina Maldonado (Risha Jamison), Deeandra and Destiny Hernandez, and Nathaniel Castillo; five grandchildren, Elias and Ariel Jamison-maldonado, Damien Hernandez, Renay Rodriguez and one on the way; and her beloved siblings, Dahlia Guizar, Susan, Manuel, Edward and Alfredo Castillo. She had a large loving extended family with many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and close friends.

She is preceded in death by her life partner, Russell C. Gray, siblings, Sophia, Armando and Daniel Castillo and her parents. Alice will be greatly missed.

Her memorial service will be held at Porterville Funeral & Cremation Center Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 9:00am.
