LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
PUSD thanks parents
On behalf of the Porterville Unified School District (PUSD) Board of Trustees, we want to especially acknowledge the parents and guardians of our students as we return to in-person learning at our middle and high schools, along with full-day instruction at our elementary schools.
Thank you for your partnership over the past year. We know our relationship with you has changed as you were often asked to become teachers working alongside us to educate your students. In the midst of the many challenges you faced during this time, you did an incredible job, and as we move to the next chapter, we want to thank you for trusting us to keep your students safe as we welcome them back to our school sites.
Whether you choose the in-person learning or distance learning model, our goal remains the same in providing the necessary support and rigor so that PUSD students are prepared for college and career. The pandemic has affected many lives, but having students return to campus will have a positive impact for our community.
We will continue to follow proper guidelines in terms of California’s blueprint to reopen our schools. Our teachers and staff have been receiving vaccinations and HEPA air filters have been installed in each of our classrooms to provide the safest environment possible for your students.
While the current numbers in Porterville and Tulare County are encouraging, we will maintain social distancing and the wearing of masks for everyone during in-person learning. We know we still have a long road ahead to return to our PRECOVID world and will continue to communicate any necessary changes.
Thank you again for your patience, partnership, and continued support. We are thrilled to have our students back on campus and look forward to finishing the year strong together! Felipe A. Martinez President, PUSD Board of Trustees
PUSD perks for vaccines disrespect taxpayers
Seems like there is no shame or limit when feasting at the public trough for the Porterville School District. I see no justification for giving a $500 perk to all employees to have gotten their COVID shot. Wait a minute, I guess it was for the children! I certainly hope the taxpayers remember this the next time the school district tells us how they need something new and ask for more funds!! Shame on whoever and all who authorized this latest piece of disrespect for the taxpayers!! David Mccombie Porterville
