PLL in need of place to store books
The Porterville Little Libraries Initiative is seeking a place to how all of the books that have been donated to the organization.
There are now 17 Porterville Little Libraries — kiosks throughout the community in which people can drop off and take books. There are also many more little libraries being developed.
PLL is also increasing its number of books in its inventory. The Lindsay Unified School District board has approved the donation of approximately 5,000 gently-used books to to PLL.
These books are highquality, library-worthy works. Many are hardbacks, and many of those that aren’t, have laminated covers.
PLL running out of space and shelving. The PLL has at least 2,000 books due to the generosity of the likes of John
Meadows, Jorene Downs, Nellie Martinez, Melson Realty, Vicky Rivera, Reforma, Jim Crew, The Friends of the Porterville Public Library, Linda Garcia, Read for Life, and many more. Elva and Fred Beltran have been graciously allowing PLL to house its collection in the Comision Honorifica warehouse.
But PLL is fast approacing the need for more space and more shelving. So PLL is seeking a new location that would be at no cost to the organization. and our PLL needs your assistance in finding it.
The space needs to be able to house many more books that will inevitably be donated. (Reading Heart, in Fresno, had to employ Chukchansi Park in order to process the 280,110 given to he organization in the spring of 2016).
Wal-mart and Kent Delperdang have already stepped up to the plate by storing much of the Porterville Public Library’s inventory and materials. “We are grateful for their generosity,” PLL stated. PLL is independent of the public library. PLL stated a a temporary location is fine, as long as it can occupied for at least one year.
Those whould would like to help out the cause can contact any of the following PLL board members: Tim Baker (559) 779-482; Gina Ecobiza Calo (559) 483-1189; Cindy Kelly (559) 3617494; Kristy Noble (949) 291-7146
PLL has a goal to establish 100 little libraries by the second anniversary on February 18, 2022 of the fire that destroyed the Porterville Public Library. The little libraries are being established in honor of Porterville Fire Captain Ray Figueroa and Firefighter Patrick Jones who were killed in the blaze.
