Summit volleyball wins third straight match
The Summit Collegiate High School volleyball team won a pair of matches on Tuesday and Wednesday to run their winning streak to three.
On Tuesday the Bears defeated Granite Hills 3-1. With the match tied 1-1 Alexix Gonzalez came off the bench and served 10 straight points, including 3 aces to turn the tide of the match.
Viktoria Monjaras had 7 aces in the match to go along with 5 digs. Ayanna Monjaras had 9 aces, 9 digs and 3 kills. Also playing well for
Summit were Thalia Vazquez, who had two aces, 3 digs and 9 kills. Stephanie Martinez and Ruby Uribe also played well
On Wednesday night Summit was able to defeat Lindsay 3-0. Viktorria Monjaras had 3 kills and 3 aces, Vazquez added 4 kills and 3 aces, Quiana Gibbs had 5 kills and 1 ace and Uribe had 3 kills and 2 aces.
Summit is now 3-1 on the season and will host Kings Christian and Strathmore next week.
MARINO WINS FOR BURTON
Devin Marino won the boys race by a significant margin as the Burton Middle School boys and cross country teams ran for the first time in nearly two years on Wednesday in a Whitney League meet at Woodlake.
Rounding out the top three for Burton were Quintinn Spindler and Dominic Gonzalez. Burton’s girls team was led by Raquel Gomez, who finished in 12:15. Kaitlyn Cervantez and Alexa Quesada ran as a duo, finishing close together with times of 15:25 and 15:33, respectively. Rounding out the finishes for Burton’s girls were Eleana Alcantar, who ran 16:45 and Kaiya Marez, who ran 16:46.
