Another seasons begins: I just hope I don’t finish last

The same suspects are back for another edition of the Pigskin Prognosticators contest which gets underway this weekend with a full slate of college football games.

Dustin Della of Suncrest Bank returns to defend his title after dethroning David Horowitz from Horowitz Jewelry, thwarting David’s quest for a three-peat. But David will surely be more determined than ever to officially become a dynasty by winning his third title in four years this season.

There’s also J.R. Flores of J.R.’S Barbershop who has returned along with Mary Quijas from Juicy Burger, who now pretty much just does catering and more than just burgers.

Of course among other things Juicy Burger is known for is its tritip and Mary’s husband Freddy Quijas also makes a mean grilled chicken or as I refer to it — FGC — Freddy Grilled Chicken.

And of course there’s yours truly who’s actually trying to avoid a three-peat this season and that’s not finish in last place for the third straight year.

Since the NFL isn’t beginning until next week, we’re beginning the season this weekend with a full slate of college football games. Of course the NFL has added a week to its season so we now have 19 weeks in which the fearless prognosticators will have their will and endurance tested.

And for the opening week, I’ll never learn. I’m not the one to play it safe, I tend to go out on a limb and it’s cost me dearly in the past, leading to my last place finishes.

The rumblings are this is the best Nevada football team since the Colin Kaepernick era heading into its game at California.

I’m picking Cal. I have to stay loyal to the Pac 12.

So I’m also picking Stanford to win at Kansas State and Oregon State to win at Purdue. But I’m picking BYU to beat Arizona. My loyalty to the Pac 12 only goes so far.

So here we go. Another season of Pigskin Prognosticators. May the best prognosticator win. Or at least may the prognosticator who has been the worst, me, not finish last.

As always we ask you to frequent the businesses of our prognosticators whenever possible while continuing to do everything you can to stay safe in this uncertain times. And we’ll be asking you to frequent the prognosticator who takes the lead more often as a way to distract that prognosticator.

We also wish you all a blessed week and a happy Labor Day weekend.
