Habitat for Humanity partners with Grocery Outlet, for golf event
New executive director named
Habitat for Humanity has announced a month long partnership with Porterville Grocery Outlet.
During September, customers can purchase a ticket for $1 for a chance to win a 43-inch Samsung TV, donated by Walmart Distribution Center. The money raised will help purchase building materials and supplies for Habitat’s next Porterville homeownership project, scheduled for 2022. The event runs through September 30.
Habitat homeowners must have steady income and qualify for a mortgage that won’t exceed a 1/3 of their income. By working side-by-side with community volunteers, the homeowners build their own home, putting in up to 500 hours of sweat equity.
“Porterville Grocery Outlet are so supportive of the community where they live, and we look forward to having them on our next Habitat job site as they help us build and swing a hammer for affordable housing,, said Habitat Associated Executive Director, Deanna Saldana.
In addition the seventh annual Judy Sarber Memorial Golf Tournament presented by Eagle Mountain Casino to benefit Habitat For Humanity will be held on October 8 at River Island.

HUGHES REPLACES HOLKEBOER
The Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity of Tulare/kings Counties announced the appointment of Robert Hughes as its new Executive Director following the retirement of Dirk Holkeboer, who had headed the local nonprofit organization for the past seven years.
The board stated Hughes brings a wealth of experience in the business and nonprofit world to the job.
Hughes lives in Springville and has worked in Porterville and other cities around the Central Valley.
The Board also announced the appointment of Saldana to the position of Associate Executive Director. Saldana is currently the Resource Development Director for Habitat and for the last two months has been serving as the Acting Executive Director during the recruitment and selection process. She has been a member of the organization’s staff for 14 years and the board stated she’s certainly a well-known face of Habitat for Humanity in the community.
Habitat for Humanity of Tulare/kings Counties also announced plans to build 6 houses over the next 30 months. The first project, the RE/ MAX home in Visalia is about to get underway, so volunteers and contractors are needed that are willing to help with this new home to be built in Central Visalia.
