‘Traditional’ matcup: Raiders-chargers — in Inglewood

- BY CHARLES WHISNAND cwhisnand@portervillerecorder.com

One of the great rivalries in professional football resumes on Monday night when the Oakland-los Angelessan Antonio-inglewoodirwindale-las Vegas Raiders play the Los Angeles-san Diego and now Los Angeles again Chargers — in Inglewood. Ah, tradition.

And it’s such an attractive matchup, it’s on Monday night. On ESPN. Again, it’s good to see the NFL maintain tradition. Sort of.

And don’t be confused even though the Raiders did flirt with playing in Inglewood this is a home game for the Chargers since the Chargers couldn’t refuse the chance to be to the Los Angeles Rams what the Clippers are to the Lakers.

So the Chargers have come full circle as they’re now willing to be second fiddle to the Rams. The whole reason why the Chargers left Los Angeles in the first place is because they didn’t want to play second fiddle to the Rams.

And the Chargers will continue to play second fiddle to the Rams as the Los Angeles Rams will host the Arizona Cardinals — at the same place the Chargers play — Inglewood — on Sunday. Monday night games which at one time were the most anticipated matchups of the week have now for the most part just really become an afterthought.

Of course the Ramscardinals game is a showdown between unbeaten teams in the NFC West featuring two hot quartebacks in Arizona’s Kyler Murray and L.A.’S Matthew Stafford. So this figures to be a challenge game for a Fearless Pigskin Prognosticators.

Actually the Chargersraiders matchup is another challenging pick for our Prognosticators. Sadly I fell out of first place last week after a mediocre performance, going 5-5.

Mary Quijas of Juicy Burger and Catering showed she’s serious at least in the early season about making a run for the title as she took over first place at 25-15 after going 7-3 last week.

And Dustin Della of Suncrest Bank is apparently serious about defending his crown as he went 8-2 last week and is right behind Mary at 2416. I’m in third at 23-17.

J.R. Flores of J.R.’S Barbershop and David Horowitz of Horowitz Jewelry definitely need a good week to get back in the hunt (another sports announcer cliché). Both went 4-6 last week and are now 18-22 on the season.

There are the share of challenging college games for our Prognosticators as well as Michigan will have a chance to prove if it’s for real under Jim (I should have stayed with the 49ers) Harbaugh at Wisconsin.

So again we hope you enjoy this weekend’s game and encourage you to frequent the businesses of our Prognosticators whenever possible and safe. And as always have a blessed week.
