No need to panic, but time to give Mary the business

- BY CHARLES WHISNAND cwhisnand@portervillerecorder.com

It’s still early in the season so there’s no need to panic. With that being said it’s time to start distracting Mary Quijas.

I’m asking our readers to give Mary and her husband, Freddy Quijas, all the business they can get. It’s fall after all a great time for get togethers while staying safe of course and Freddy and Mary of Juicy Burger are the people to cater your event.

As I’ve written before Freddy grills a mean chicken which I have dubbed FGC — Freddy Grilled Chicken.

But most importantly I’m asking our readers to keep Mary as busy as possible so she doesn’t have any time to focus on her picks.

Mary had another outstanding week, going 7-3 and remains in first place in our Fearless Prognosticators contest at 32-18.

But this could change on a weekly basis. By next week, I could be asking you to district Dustin Della at Suncrest Bank and give him as much business as possible. Dustin went 6-4 last week and is just two games behind Mary at 30-20.

And don’t count out David Horowitz of Horowitz Jewelry as one who will need to eventually be distracted with a lot of business. David showed he’s serious about becoming a “dynasty” by winning his third title in four years as he went 8-2 last week and is now at 26-24.

Yours truly went 6-4 last week to stay in third place and I’m still holding delusions that I can win this thing just three games behind Mary with an overall record of 2624.

And being the nice guy that I am as a Giants fan, I’m rooting for the Giants to eliminate the Dodgers as soon as possible so Dodger fan J.R. Flores of J.R.’S Barbershop can focus on his picks instead of the playoffs.

J.R. also went 6-4 last week and is now 24-26 on the season.

This week’s college football slate features the Red River Shootout between Texas and Oklahoma, which brings to mind one of my favorite stories about Texas coach Darrell Royal who once told his team at halftime during the Texas-oklahom game, “There’s a heckuva fight going on out there, I just wished somebody would get involved.”

Of course Royal is also know for saying “you dance with the one who brung ya.”

While that’s a pretty cool quote my all-time favorite sports quote comes from John Mckay, then coach of the hapless Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when he was asked about his team’s execution: “I’m all for it.”

When it comes to the execution of my picks, “I’m all for it.”

Anyway we again ask you frequent the businesses of a prognosticators whenever possible and safe. And as always we wish you a blessed week.
