The Poppies
To American Legion Post 20 and the Porterville Veterans Homecoming Committee for all their hard work in making sure all of this year’s Veterans Day activities took place.
Also to retired Porterville Panther band director Jim Kusserow and all those who made it possible for the Veterans Day Buck Shaffer Band-a-rama to once again be held.
And of course to all the Veterans and to all those who are currently in the military. And of course every day should be Veterans Day as we all need to make sure all of our Veterans and military personnel receive the recognition and resources they deserve.
And a shout out to 100-year-old World War II veteran John Watkins, who was recognized by the Porterville Police Department and the U.S. Navy Recruiting Office.
Also to the Porterville Exchange Club and Porterville Military Academy for the dedication of the Freedom Shrine which is a collection of this country’s founding documents.
To the Monache High girls tennis team for winning the Division IV Valley title.
To Anthem Blue Cross for its donation of a Ford F-150 Pickup Truck to the Navigation Center/welcome Center, which will provide a tremendous help in providing needed resources for the homeless. Also to the Navigation Center/welcome Center and Central California Family Crisis Center for all the work they do.
To Bank of the Sierra for providing a $10,000 grant to Habit for Humanity for the construction of their next house.
To River Ridge for another outstanding Foothills Festival.
To Summit Collegiate High School and its students for the extensive Dia de los Muertos celebration they put on the for the community.
To the Tule River Parkway Association for their continued with the Tule River Parkway Gardens. And to students from the Granite Hills Law and Justice Academy and the Monache Environmental Science Academy, cadets from the Strathmore and Burton School Districts and all those who participated in the Tule River Parkway Run/walk and Garden Tours.
