Here’s to traditional rivalries — in Santa Clara, vegas

- BY CHARLES WHISNAND cwhisnand@portervillerecorder.com

This is a great week for traditional rivalries in the NFL as the San Francisco 49ers will host the Los Angeles Rams in Santa Clara on Monday Night Football.

And of course the Oakland-los Angeles-inglewood-irwindale-san Antonio and now Las Vegas Raiders host the Kansas City Chiefs at the Death

Star or whatever it’s called in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

And of course on the final week of the season, the Los Angeles Rams will host the San Francisco 49ers in Inglewood.

Actually I’m just glad it’s the LOS ANGELES Rams playing the San Francisco 49ers again no matter where they’re playing. The St. Louis Rams never seemed right. Of course they did start out as the Cleveland Rams.

And the Kansas City Chiefs started out as the Dallas Texans. But even though the Texans were arguably more popular than the upstart Dallas Cowboys in the early 60s, Lamar Hunt apparently knew the Cowboys would receive the bogus title as “America’s Team” and moved his team to Kansas City to do what’s best for the AFL.

Anyway my loyalty to the 49ers is being tested because I’m in danger of becoming the “Best Last Place Picker in America” again as J.R. Flores of J.R.’S Barbershop is just two games behind me. I’ve given up on winning the title after being in the lead early in the season. I just want to stay out of last.

Meanwhile that upstart Mary Quijas of Juicy Burger and Catering

is trying to hold off defending champion Dustin Della of Suncrest Bank and David Horowitz of Horowitz Jewelry. Of course, David is trying to cement his legacy as a dynasty as he goes for his third title in four years.

Yours truly will also note there’s only nine games this week as we were originally supposed to pick the USCCAL game but that game got moved to December 4 because of COVID issues and yours truly didn’t get around to selecting another game.

It’s still going to be another great weekend of football no matter where it’s played. As always we welcome our readers to frequent the businesses of our Fearless Prognosticators whenever possible and safe. And as always we wish you a blessed week.
