All the hopes and dreams of the Prognosticators season

- BY CHARLES WHISNAND cwhisnand@portervillerecorder.com

I’m sure David Horowitz of Horowitz Jewelry hears John Facenda’s voice ringing in his ears now: “All the hopes and dreams of a jewelry nation rest on David Horowitz.”

David is again staking his claim of being a dynasty as he’s now in a three-way tie for first in his quest to win his third Fearless Prognosticators title in four years. But Dustin Della of Suncrest Bank is also serious about his quest for a repeat as he’s in a three-way tie as well for first, so he definitely has dreams of defending his title.

David and Dustin have moved into a three-way tie with Mary Quijas of Juicy Burger and Catering, who much like her favorite team, the Los Angeles Rams, has faltered in the midseason. All three are tied at 7752. Mary went just 4-6 last week while Dustin and David both went 6-4 to move into a three-way tie. But yours truly also still have dreams of a historic comeback for the ages for the title as I’m trying to prove “I’m for real,” another cliché the talking heads love to use, after my strong start to the season.

I’m five games back of first, well within “striking range,” another cliché the talking heads love to use. I went 7-3 last week and if it was up to me I would use the Continental Basketball League rules and award myself a point toward winning the title as I had the best record last week to improve to 72-52. J.R. Flores of J.R.S’ Barbershop went 5-5 last week but is still a respectable (another talking heads popular cliché term) 6960 on the season.

This week’s biggest college game is Georgia against Alabama and here’s hoping Georgia destroys Alabama to end the endless ESPN talk the Crimson Tide deserve to be in the College Football Playoff even if they have two losses. Puh-leeze.

How many mediocre SEC 6-loss teams does Alabama have to barely beat (Florida, LSU, Auburn) before we can finally end this stupid talk about them being in the

College Football Playoff.

Of course my nightmare scenario is if Alabama barely loses to Georgia or even worse beats Georgia and gets into the playoff.

Regardless it’s still going to be another great week of games. So as always we encourage you to frequent the businesses of our Prognosticators whenever possible and safe. And as always we wish you a blessed week.
