Ruben Ramirez, a resident of Lindsay for 58 years died at St. Agnes Hospital in Fresno on December 7, 2021 due to complicati­ons of pneumonia.

Ruben was born in Villa Morelos, Michoacan, to Alejo Ramirez and Vicenta Corea in March 1930. At the age of 22 years old, Ruben came to the U.S. through the Brasero program for migrant workers. He worked in the program for 7 years before he applied for permanent residency in 1962, and he received legal permanent residency status until he became a US Citizen. In 1963 he was able to petition for his family to also immigrate to Lindsay where he and his wife of 70 years raised seven children. Before retiring in 2000, Ruben worked in agricultur­e in the Central Valley where he was a foreman for crews in the citrus and olive industry, he was also a Hot Shot, firefighte­r in the 70’s with the Sequoia National Forest Service.

Ruben is beloved by many friends and he always gave his all for family. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Eva, Gerardo, Elvira, Alicia, Lidia, Lupe and Gabriel and their families for his story telling, his kindness, his hard work and his resiliency in the midst of difficulti­es. He is survived by his wife Carmen Ramirez and sister Emilia Camacho. Ruben will be greatly missed by his 11 grandchild­ren, 1 great grandson and 8 nieces and nephews.

Viewing and Rosary Services will be at Webb Sanders & Smith Funeral Home on 163 S. Mirage Ave, Lindsay, on Dec. 20, 2021 from 2:00-7:00 pm. The funeral Mass in celebratio­n of Ruben’s life will be on Dec. 21st at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 217 Lindero Ave Lindsay, California at 11:00 am, followed by the burial at the Lindsay Cemetery.
