To all of the local graduates who have been receiving their diplomas and degrees at various levels whether it be middle school, high school or college. And to all of those educators and family members who helped make it possible for their loved ones to reach this milestone.

To the City of Portervill­e and all those who made last Friday’s Military Banner Ceremony possible. And to the community of Portervill­e for its support of its loved ones who have served in the military. And of course to the 852 individual­s who now have banners in the community for their service to this country.

To American Legion Post 20 for everything they do in putting on the Memorial Day Observance at Hillcrest Cemetery to honor all those who served and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Also to American Legion Post 20 members and all the volunteers who worked so hard to place American flags on the graves of veterans at the cemetery and place the Avenue of Flags.

To OACYS on celebratin­g their 40th anniversar­y in Portervill­e.

To Springvill­e’s John Adams, who will be turning 93, who was able to visit Washington, D.C., as part of the Honor Flight program. Adams was able to go after his trip was delayed for more than two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Adams is a Korean War veteran.

To Harmony Magnet Academy who continues to be honored as a top school by various state and national groups as it was named as a 2021-2022 Project Lead the Way Distinguis­hed School.

To American Legion Post 20 and the Portervill­e Exchange Club for the rededicati­on of the Freedom Shrine, which consists of 32 replicas of historic American documents, at the Portervill­e Veterans Building. The Exchange Club has worked to place Freedom Shrines at various locations in the area.

To Hope Elementary School Principal Melanie Matta, who was recently recognized by Tulare County Supervisor Dennis Townsend for her schools’ unparallel­ed success in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. The school was recently honored by the state with a California Pivotal Practice Award for how it dealt with the pandemic.

To Monache’s Monte Moore for placing seventh at the Central Section Masters track meet in the 800 meters and the Monache’s Josiah Perez for placing 15th in the 110 meter high hurdles at the meet.

To Granite Hills Bryce Painter who won the Central Section Area Championsh­ip in golf when he shot a par-72 at the Tulare Golf Course.

To the Burton Middle School Bulldog Band for being named the top overall band at the Kingsburg Band Review. And to the Sequoia Middle School Band for place first in music with the highest music score at the Kingsburg Band Review.

To the Sierra View Medical Center Wound Healing Center for receiving two national awards from Healogics, the nation’s leading and largest wound care management company, the 2021 Center of Excellence Award and the 2021 Center of Distinctio­n Award.

To the South Valley Chivas 14 and under boys soccer team for a successful season that includes winning the Norcal Premier League State Cup and the Modesto Ajax Presidents Day Cup.

To the Rollin Relics for holding a successful car show that featured everything from 1920’s vintage to 2020’s modern muscle. The event was attended by thousands.

The Poppies recognize those for their community service and those in the area for their accomplish­ments and appear every Friday in The Recorder.
