LETTER TO THE EDITOR

-

No politics on Memorial Day On Memorial Day this year I had the privilege of participating in the Memorial Day ceremony held at Hillcrest Cemetery with American Legion Post 20. State Assemblyman Devon Mathis was one of the speakers. He is a veteran and spoke of what this day means, to the veterans and their families. This is a day to remember those who gave their lives in defense of freedom and the military who are serving now. Not once did I hear him speak of politics or political agenda or if anyone was running against him.

However I read the Porterville

Recorder in regards to the Memorial Day ceremony at Veterans Park. I don’t care what political party you belong to this day is not for political agendas. It seems some of the Democratic candidates did not agree.

For example Rudy Salas candidate for District 22 announced his political agenda, more water, jobs and schools etc. Marisa Wood candidate for District 20 spoke of her challenge to Kevin Mccarthy and that she would stand up for justice. This was neither the day nor the time and place for this conduct. If this was planned it was in very bad taste. I hear enough politicians making their promises that they are probably not going to keep anway. They will pass just about anything as long as it does not apply to them.

I am a U.S. Army veterans and I was also drafted and I am proud of my service. This day belongs to the memory of the ones who gave all and their families. As far as I am concerned they offended the memory of our fallen heroes by using this day for their political agendas.
