George Tanimoto

George Tanimoto was born October 17, 1934 in Downey, CA to Takuichi and Kiyomi Tanimoto. He passed away on September 26, 2022 in Fresno, CA, at the age of 87.

George was relocated to the Japanese Relocation Center in Gila River Arizona during WWII in 1942 at 8 years old. George served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1957. He was a special education teacher at the Portervill­e Developmen­t Center for 29 years, teaching arts and crafts until he retired in 1992. He married his wife of 59 years, Ellen Aoki, in the spring of 1963.

George lived a full, joyful life with much family and friends. George's enjoyment was spending time with family and friends, playing golf, and being a line-artist; working with watercolor­s, acrylics and colored pencils. His art was shown at many exhibition­s, and he sold many paintings during his art career. His artwork will continue to bring joy and happiness to many through his fun and creative paintings.

George is preceded in death by his mother, father, brother Frank Tanimoto and sisters Joyce Tuck and Gladys Yoshida.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Tanimoto; daughter, Selena Kubota and husband, Robert; and son, Bruce Tanimoto and wife, Jami; grandchild­ren, Bradley Kubota, Kiyomi Tanimoto and Kimiko Tanimoto; and many beloved family members and friends.

A visitation will be held at Lisle Funeral Home on Thursday, October 6, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Fresno Buddhist Temple on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 11:00 AM, with interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

The family would like to thank both The Terraces at San Joaquin Gardens and St. Agnes Hospice for providing care to George and to the many family and friends for their friendship and support.
