Maybe I should run Prognosticators like a game show

- BY CHARLES WHISNAND cwhisnand@portervillerecorder.com

As the Prognosticators Commission, maybe I should make this contest more like a game show. I can remember watching game shows when they would go several episodes without the winner who advanced to the final bonus round being able to win the grand prize.

So I would notice those games shows would make the questions easier in the final bonus round so the top contestant would win the grand prize. And when like maybe three or four top contestants in a row won the grand prize that game show would then always make the questions in the final bonus round more difficult.

Remember The Joker’s Wild with Jack Barry in the 70s. That game show had to have the easiest questions ever whenever somebody got three Jokers. Barry would state something like, “He’s the main star on Happy Days, he plays Fonzie, his name is Henry .... ”

Well maybe I need to make this Prognosticators contest more like The Joker’s Wild. I’ve written before my ultimate goal is for all five of us to finish in a fiveway tie with a .500 record at the end of the season.

But so far this year, with the exception of J.R. Flores from J.R.’S Barber Shop, we’re all struggling to reach the “Whisnand Line.” Only J.R. has managed to stay above .500 while the rest of us are below .500, the “Whisnand Line.”

I haven’t let up yet as this week I continued to select what I thought were some of the most difficult college and NFL games to pick. But I haven’t lost confidence in my fellow Prognosticators yet. I firmly believe they will eventually rise to the challenge and make it above the “Whisnand Line.”

If not, I can always go to work for one of those game shows and come up with those “Henry...” type questions.

As always we encourage you to frequent the businesses of our Prognosticators whenever possible. And as always we wish you a blessed week.
