The Poppies
To the City of Porterville Parks and Leisure Services and all those responsible for putting on an outstanding Pioneer Days, Rib Cook-off and Pageant. There were certainly plenty of shenanigans, indeed.
To the Changala family for providing more than 30 years of family friendly fun to generations at the Pumpkin Patch. This is the last year for the Pumpkin Patch and while we understand why the family is retiring — it takes a lot of work — we’re still going to miss the treasured Porterville tradition.
To all of the 4-H clubs for the return of the 4-H Chuckwagon Breakfast at the Porterville Fairgrounds.
To Strathmore High football player Jamie Arredond and Natasha Pardo for being named Strathmore High’s Homecoming King and Queen, Amelio Valencia and Quinn Soriano for being named Harmony Magnet Academy’s Homecoming King and Queen and Luke Jacobson and Angelina Martinez for being named Porterville Military Academy’s Homecoming King and Queen.
To the Zonta Club and the Granite Hills High School Z Club for combining to provide The Lisa Project, giving the community a chance to take a first hand look at the world of child abuse through the interactive exhibit.
To the Strathmore Town and Country Club who’s celebrating its 111th year.
The Poppies recognize those for their community service and those in the area for their accomplishments and appear every Friday in The Recorder. Those who have an idea for a Poppy can contact Porterville Recorder Editor Charles Whisnand, cwhisnand@portervillerecorder.com or 784-5000, extension 1048.
