The autumn wind is a jeweler: A Horowitz comeback

- BY CHARLES WISNAND cwhisnand@portervillerecorder.com

I keep writing about imagining listening to John Facenda’s booming voice as he narrates as he would put it “it could go down in the annals (I still don’t know what that word means) as one of the greatest comebacks in Prognosticators history.”

Facenda would go onto to say “The autumn wind is a jeweler.”

At one point David Horowitz of Horowitz Jewelers was mired in last place with a record of 15-25 four weeks into the season. But sinse then he has turned it around, putting together back-toback 8-2 weeks and “has risen from the ashes” as Facenda would put it to move into second place in the Prognosticators standings with a 38-32 record.

But J.R. Flores of J.R.’S Barbershop has been more than up to the challenge, also putting together an 8-2 record last week to maintain his three-game lead over Horowitz. Flores is in first place with a 41-29 record.

All of the Prognosticators had a solid week last week and we’re all now at or above “The Whisnand Line,” reaching the .500 mark. Mary Quijas of Juicy Burger Catering also went 8-2 to improve to 37-33 on the season.

Yours truly also went 8-2 last week to remain tied with Quijas at 37-33. Alex Larson of the Porterville Exchange Club must have been grooming his beard a little bit too much last week as he didn’t have quite as good of a week as the rest of us, but he was still a solid 6-4 and to move up right at “The Whisnand Line” at 35-35.

There are a lot of good games this week but I still can’t get used to the Raiders being in Las Vegas, the Colts being in Indianapolis and the Titans being in Tennessee. When I read the schedule that Indianapolis was at Nashville, I thought why are they still playing Triple A baseball games this late in the year?

But the Prognosticators press on and I’m confident we’ll continue our hot streak.

As always we encourage you to frequent the businesses of our Prognosticators whenever possible. And as always we wish you a blessed week.
