Volleyball, girls tennis playoffs get underway today

Several local high school teams will begin action in the Central Section volleyball and girls tennis playoffs today.

In volleyball Monache is the No. 7 seed in Division II and will host No. 10 Centennial. With a win Monache would advance to a quarterfin­al playoff match on Thursday either at No. 2 Arroyo Grand or at home against No. 15 Frontier.

Buchanan is the No. 1 seed in Division II. Monache finished the season at 20-10 and in second place in the East Yosemite League at 8-2.

Portervill­e High is the No. 3 seed in Division III and will host No. 14 Mission

College Prep at Sharman Gym. With a win the Panthers will advance to a quarterfin­al playoff match on Thursday as it would host either No. 6 Nipomo or No. 11 Madera South.

If it advances that far the Panthers are looking at a semifinal playoff match at No. 2 Arvin on Tuesday, November 1. Kingsburg is the No. 1 seed in Division III. PHS finished 25-7 overall on the season and 5-5 in the EYL.

In Division VI Strathmore is the No. 14 seed and will travel to No. 3 Lone Pine. The Monache, PHS and SHS playoff matches are scheduled for 6 p.m. today.

Lindsay is the No. 13 seed in Division VI and will travel to No. 4 Baker for a 4 p.m. match today.

In girls tennis Strathmore is the No. 3 seed in Division IV and will open the playoffs at 3 p.m. today against Fowler. With a win SHS would advance to a quarterfin­al match on Thursday in which it would host either No. 6 Orosi or No. 11 Morro Bay.

If it advances that far the Spartans are looking at a semifinal match in which it would travel to No. 2 Caruthers on Tuesday, November 1. Corcoran is the No. 1 seed in Division IV.

In Division II Portervill­e High is seeded No. 14 and will travel to No. 3 seed Clovis East for a match scheduled at 4 p.m. today. Portervill­e finished in third place in the EYL with a 7-3 mark.
