Sara Ruth Parsons, a business owner and resident of Ducor, CA passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2022 in Bakersfield, California at the age of 101.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Joaquin Parsons; her son, John Parsons; and her sister, Lucille Randall.

Sara was born Sara Ruth Grothe in National City, Ca on April 17, 1921 to parents John and Stella Grothe. She lived in the Chula Vista area for most of her childhood, moving to Minnesota for a few years during the depression. She graduated from Sweetwater High School in Palm City. She attended San Diego State for two years and majored in accounting. When WWII began she started secretarial work at Rohr Aircraft. It wasn’t long before she became an administrator.

She was introduced to Joaquin, a Marine stationed at North Island and they married in 1946 at a small chapel in Palm City. Right after the war there were shortages of goods and she had difficulty finding white material for a wedding gown. Joaquin was able to acquire white parachute silk for the gown and it is on display at the Tulare County Museum in Visalia.

Sara and Joaquin moved to Ducor, bought a home, and owned and operated the family farming business for over 70 years.

Sara was a loving mother to James, Sandra, and John. She was a beloved mother-in-law to Carl Carter and Cecilia Parsons. She doted on her grandchildren, Vanessa and Dustin Carter; Jordan, Steven, and Kurt Parsons; Gary Duncan, Leann Miller, and Kim Gonzales. Her great grandchildren were always delighted to visit her and loved her stories and cherished memories.

A Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Vandalia Cemetery in Porterville, CA.
