To the Summit Collegiate High School boys basketball team for winning the first league title in school history. Also to Summit’s boys and girls basketball teams for winning the first playoff games in their programs’ history.
To Pleasant View Elementary School for being named as a School to watch by the State Department of Education. And to Citrus High Schools and John J. Cairns High School for being named as model continuation schools by the State Department of Education.
To Sierra View Medical Center and the numerous people affiliated with the hospital along with the Porterville Library Junction Initiative for making today’s ribbon cutting possible for the latest PLJS, two fire truck PLJS in honor of Porterville Fire Captain Ray Figueroa and Firefighter Patrick Jones who were killed in the February 18, 2020 fire that destroyed the Porterville Public Library.
To all those performers and those who work behind the scenes at the Barn Theater who were nominated for Hosscars. The Barn Theater will hold its annual Hosscars ceremony on Friday, February 24.
To the Granite Hills Law and Ethics Pathway mock trial team for advancing to the semifinals of the Tulare County Mock Trial competition.
To the Porterville Police Department for receiving Gold Recognition for policy management and training in 2022 from Lexipol, the nation’s leading provider of policy, training and wellness support for first responders. It’s the third straight year PPD rceeived Gold Recognition, the highest honor presented by Lexipol. Also to the three officers who make up PPD’S Professional Standards and Training Unit, Sergeant Orlando Ortiz, Corporal Marcial Macias and Officer Jesus Gallardo and Captain Dominic Barteau in their work that enabled PPD to receive the honor.
