Angel Gerardo Rodriguez
Angel Gerardo Rodriguez was called to be with our Lord on February 13, 2023 at the age of 96. He was born October 2, 1926 in San Ciro, San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
Angel immigrated to the United States in 1945, where he operated tractors and drove trucks in Texas. He married the love of his life-juanita in 1950 and they landed in Harlingen, Texas. He moved to California with Juanita and 2 daughters in 1957 as a migrant farm worker. He settled in Tagus Ranch, Tulare then moved his family to Porterville. He also served as a U.S. Forest Service, Seasonal Firefighter for 14 years, rising to the rank of Squad Boss leading Hot Flames and Black Eagles firefighting crews. He traveled and battled numerous wildfires in 7 of the Western States. He was a man of faith and very active in the Catholic Church.
Angel is survived by Juanita, his wife of 73 years. He is survived by his children: Martha Zegers (John), Christina Medina (Paul), Tony (Leticia), Silver (Sandra), Angie Avina (John), Mary Fernandez (David), Martin, and Ramiro (Sheri). He was very proud of all the accomplishments of his children and their professional careers.
Angel was a kind, generous, humble and caring man. He was a devoted husband and recently celebrated 73 years with his beloved Juanita. He was a proud and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was quick to help others in need and served our Lord through his service at the Catholic Church over the years. He made friends where ever he went and was loved by all. His life was filled with the joy of family and friends. He loved the outdoors and loved interacting with people.
A viewing is scheduled at Myers Reception Hall in Porterville, CA for Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with the Rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Porterville, CA on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Internment to follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery in Porterville, CA.
