LETTER TO THE EDITOR

I sent the following comment to the Board of Supervisors Dear Supervisors, Dennis Townsend is my representative, my neighbor and my friend. I strongly differ with him on the matter of instituting a public prayer at governmental meetings and I do so for several reasons.

The simplest way to state it is in Matthew 6:6, which says, subject to slight word changes from version to version,

“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”

This is commonly interpreted to mean “Jesus teaches that it is better to pray to your Father in secret and be rewarded by Him than it is to pray in a way to be seen by men and be thought holy by them. Jesus repeats the same pattern of reward from men vs. reward from God; being seen by men or acting in secrecy.” Thank you, Gary Adest, Springville

Porterville Recorder, Thank you once again for allowing me to share a few nonsecular thoughts with your readers. A few years ago, my great granddaughter Bayleigh was spending a few days with me one Summer. As we were saying our prayers one night, after the As I lay me down to sleep one, I asked Bayleigh if she would help me pray that God would touch some members of our family that needed healing. In an instant she looked totally frustrated and asked me “”Grandma! How many hands does God have anyway! How can God touch so many people?” I looked at Bayleigh and replied, “Sis, God has your hands, my hands, and whosoever is willing for Him to use theirs. Thats how many hands God has! I wish I could capture the look of amazement on that child’s face! Hum. Does God have our hands? Good question that only you and I can answer. Never before in the history of our country do we need Gods hands reaching out to those in need. Be that hand!god bless all of Gods helping hands.
