Bill R. Jones
On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, Bill Jones, loving husband, and father, passed away at the age of 79. A native of Porterville, Bill was born on February 26, 1944, to Ray and Evelyn (Mann) Jones.
Bill enrolled in the Navy in 1962, serving as an airplane mechanic at Moffett Field in Mountain View, CA. It was during his time in the military that he met and married his lovely wife, Rosemary Hausman, on December 12, 1964. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he and Rose returned to Porterville with their daughter Tracie. Bill joined his father’s Ready Mix business, eventually taking it over. He sold the company in 2000 and started Grass Creations with his son Trent.
A strong believer in community service, Bill was appointed to the Parks & Recreation Committee in the 70s. Over the next few decades, he served on several boards, including the Porterville Fair Board, the Chamber of Commerce, and the River Island Board of Directors. Bill was a member of the Elks, Rotary, and Lions Clubs, often taking on leadership roles. In 1987, Bill received Porterville’s Man of the Year award.
Bill had a passion for creating and fixing things. In his early years, he restored old cars and built go-carts and dune buggies from scratch. Most recently, he started woodworking, specifically designing and building birdhouses. He was known for his zest for life and his kind and generous spirit. Bill was baptized in the Catholic Church in 2007 and his faith brought him much comfort.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Ray; his mother, Evelyn; his brother, Gerald; and his stepmother, Ann. He is survived by his wife, Rose; his two children, Trent and Tracie; his three grandchildren, Parker, Tyler, and Anna; his brother, Randy; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as his daughter-inlaw, Leslie and son-in-law, Tom.
