Damaso-sahari known to family and friends as "Marilou" passed away peacefully at her home in Olympia, Washington at the age of 66 after a lengthy illness. Marilou was born in Manila, Philippines and immigrated from Nueva Ecija, Philippines to Porterville, California in 1975. After graduating High School from La Consolacion in Mendiola, Manila, she completed her LVN in 1978 at Porterville College. She took her undergraduate degree at California State University, Long Beach in 1982, where she met her husband, Abe who graduated in Mechanical Engineering.
In 2006, Marilou pursued a Master in Science degree in Nursing at the University of Phoenix, and in 2012, she graduated at Seattle University with a degree in Advanced Registered Nurse with emphasis in Family Practice. Marilou worked at St. Mary's Medical Center, Long Beach in California for 10 years in the Diabetes and Renal Unit before moving to Olympia, Washington in 1987. She started at St. Peter's Hospital as a Charge Nurse in the Dialysis Unit, then she joined Fresenius Medical Care as a Manager. While pursuing her Nurse Practitioner Degree, she worked part-time in Renal Acute Unit at St. Joseph Medical Center.
Her first job as a Nurse Practitioner was with Renal Care Group in Portland, Oregon. After a year, she returned to Franciscan Nephrology Group in Washington until her retirement in 2021.
Marilou loved to travel. She has traveled most of the western and eastern part of the US, and enjoyed her trips to different countries in Europe. She was a pet lover of dogs, cats, and birds which she taught her two sons at an early age to love these animals.
From a very dear friend of Marilou, she said "Marilou was a gift to humanity, what a profound loss but heaven's gain".
Marilou is survived by her husband Abe and their two sons, Michael who was born in Long Beach, California and Chris in Olympia, Washington. Michael is a graduate of Washington State University, and Chris graduated from University of Washington; her sister Connie (Pepe) Acoba of Porterville, California and half-sister Alice Grefiel of the Philippines; nephew Jerome Acoba of Puyallup, Washington and niece Christine (Michael) Demacabalin of Porterville, California; cousins Benny (Ellen) Delacruz of Porterville and Juanita (Teddy) Ilagan of the Philippines and many nieces and nephews. She also left behind her cat Romeo whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her parents Alejo Castillo Damaso and Patty Bajar Damaso.
Visitation will be at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lacey, Washington on March 28, 2023 at 10:00 am.
