Joe Marvin Woodward, Sr., 75, of Portervill­e, CA, passed away peacefully in his home while under the care of his loving wife and granddaugh­ters, on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, after a yearlong battle with esophagus cancer.

Joe was born September 25, 1947 in Portervill­e. The youngest son out of ten children to Henry and Rose Woodward. Joe married his sweetheart, Caroline Cat Wilburn, on February 3, 1968. Together they raised three children and had just celebrated fiftyfive years of marriage.

Joe started his career at the young age of 14 to help support his parents and younger sisters. He spent seventeen years at Hillside Packing in Exeter before going to work for his wife's family as a janitor and handy-man. Joe was skilled in so many ways and stayed busy throughout retirement and even through his illness. He was a true inspiratio­n to his family and friends when it came to hard work and determinat­ion. There is nothing that brought Joe greater joy then working in his yard or spending time with his grandchild­ren. He was a friend to everyone he met.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Rose Woodward; brothers Charles Tom and Donnie Jack; his sisters Loetteda Mae, Barbara, Hazel, Linda and Judy; and his three children Sue, Joe Jr., and Sherry.

Joe is survived by his loving family; Wife Caroline, granddaugh­ters Jessica Buchanan (James), Jimie Jones and Princess Owens; grandsons Kevin Soza (Joseph), Christophe­r Woodward and Michael Owens; greatgrand­children Kelly Rucker and Audrey Martinez; brother William Bill Woodward; sister Charlotte Montgomery (Tom); beloved sisterin-law Sharon Adamson and lifelong friends Terrill & Elaine Oneal.

A Celebratio­n of Life will be held on Saturday March 25 th at Move of God Ministry 384 Lowery Street, Portervill­e at 2:00pm.

Joe will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. We will miss his sweet smile and the strength he brought to us.
