Giglio to challenge Mccarthy in primary
Clovis businessman David Giglio announced on Monday he's challenging incumbent Kevin Mccarthy to represent the 20th district in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2024 primary.
The 20th district includes Springville and the Sequoia National Forest area. Giglio, also a Republican, said he supported the effort to oust Mccarthy as the Speaker of the House and also stated his unwavering support for Donald Trump.
Giglio also ran for Congress in 2022, looking to represent the 13th district. Giglio lost in the primary as Republican John Duarte eventually edged Democrat Adam Gray to win the seat.
“Kevin Mccarthy has failed the American people,” Giglio said. “After years of being sold out to special interests, the people of the Central Valley deserve an America First Republican fighting for them in Washington and working alongside President Donald Trump to WAGE WAR against the corrupt uniparty.
“Kevin Mccarthy was removed as Speaker by 8 courageous members of his own party for failing to keep his promises and capitulating to Joe Biden and the radical Democrats. Kevin Mccarthy must be defeated.”
In describing himself as an America First Republican, Giglio said now more than ever it's important career politicians be replaced. He said he would work to secure the Southern border, stop the weaponization of government, “drain the corrupt swap,” and “annihilate permanent Washington.
“The American people want and deserve radical change and I intend to do whatever it takes to fight, win and deliver.”
Democrat Marisa Wood has also announced she's again challenging Mccarthy in the 2024 election. Mccarthy soundly defeated Wood when she ran against him in the 2022 election.
