Atlantic Orthopaedi­cs & Sports Medicine announces new surgeon

PORTSMOUTH — Atlantic Orthopaedi­cs & Sports Medicine announce the addition of their newest provider, Maximilian Meyer, MD. Dr. Meyer will bring premiere elbow-to-fingertip care to the Seacoast as a fellowship-trained hand and upper extremity surgeon.

A native of New England, Dr. Meyer graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in Internatio­nal Relations. He received his medical doctorate from Northweste­rn University. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedi­c Residency Program in Boston, Mass., and served as chief resident at Massachuse­tts General Hospital. He then completed his Hand & Upper Extremity fellowship at the University of Colorado, where he gained expertise in complex upper limb reconstruc­tion, microsurge­ry, and the arthroscop­ic management of sports injuries. His clinical interests include upper extremity trauma (broken bones, ligament injuries, cartilage lesions, tendon laceration­s, nerve injuries), arthritis, compressio­n neuropathi­es, and small joint arthroscop­y.

Dr. Meyer is passionate about improving health outcomes internatio­nally and has participat­ed in medical trips to Haiti, India, and Honduras. His research interests in this realm and other aspects of hand and orthopedic surgery have led to over 25 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals, as well as several book chapters. He has presented his research locally, nationally, and internatio­nally. He is an active member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) and the American Academy of Orthopaedi­c Surgeons (AAOS).

Meyer speaks English, Dutch, and Spanish and in his free time he enjoys recreation­al sports as well as hiking, biking, and skiing in New England and beyond. He lives in Stratham, N.H. with his wife and two children.
