HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENT ROUNDUP Dover, Portsmouth volleyball advance to semis

DOVER - The Dover High School volleyball team beat No. 5 Londonderr­y, 3-2 on Friday in a Division I quarterfin­al match.

Individual game scores were 25-18, 25-22, 25-23.

“I am excited for all of the girls to play on this stage and especially for my seniors who have pushed this team to stay competitiv­e all season,” Dover head coach Whitney Carrier said.

No. 4 Dover (15-5) will face No. 1 Bedford on Wednesday in a Division I semifinal at Pinkerton Academy. Game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

“This team has brought Dover back to the Final Four and their hard work this season has paid off,” Carrier said. “They were hyped all game for each other and I am ready to see them carry that energy into the next round.

Aidyn Stone led Dover with 18 digs and six aces, while Tory Vitko had 15 kills, seven assists and three blocks, and Regan Bernard had 11 digs, three kills and three aces.

WINDHAM - Portsmouth’s Margaret Montplaisi­r registered her 500th career kill in this Division I quarterfin­al win for the Clippers.

Individual game scores were 25-22, 25-18, 25-14.

“We had a balanced attack from everyone,” Portsmouth coach Wayne Siejkowski said. “Defensivel­y we were able to pick up the tips and rolls over our block and convert it into offensive opportunit­ies and points.”

Eva Lalime started Game 3 with 10 straight service points, giving the Clippers a 10-1 advantage in the clinching game.

Montplaisi­r, Georgia Pinciaro, Maddie

MacCannell, and Roe Beland led Portsmouth’s offensive attack, while Pia Brewster shined in the backcourt.

Portsmouth will face No. 2 HollisBroo­kline on Wednesday in a semifinal at Pinkerton. Game is scheduled to start at 5.

“We’re excited to be in the Final Four,” Siejkowski said. “We’re hoping to continue to improve over the next couple of practices. I believe the players will give every effort in the game against Hollis.”

No. 4 Hopkinton 3

No. 5 St. Thomas Aquinas 0 HOPKINTON - Hopkinton broke a scoreless tie in the 38th minute and added two goals in the second half in this Division III quarterfin­al.

St. Thomas finished the season with a record of 14-4.

“Obviously it’s not the result we wanted but the boys played hard until the very last minute and that goes a long way,” St. Thomas head coach Patrick Hureau said. “We had a pretty good idea of what to expect and trained for it but dead ball plays came back to bite us again. Credit to them for fighting hard and getting the win.”

No. 8 Winnacunne­t 1

HANOVER - Owen Janetos scored on a penalty kick late in the second half of this Division I quarterfin­al at top-seed Hanover.

Winnacunne­t goalie Tyler Blank had eight saves, and the Warriors finished at 10-5-3.

“We ran into the buzz-saw that is Hanover,” Winnacunne­t head coach Nick Rowe said. “The team did play with a lot of heart the entire match. We’re very proud of the effort our seniors put in their four years they have set the standard high for Warrior soccer.”

MANCHESTER - Exeter finished the season at 8-9-1 with this Division I quarterfin­al loss.
