SOUTH BERWICK - Fred was born in Dover on July 4th, 1934, the eldest child of Alfred Sr. and Louise (Gagnon) Houde. Fred served in the US Navy during his youth and, upon honorable discharge, worked at the Portsmouth Naval Yard. He spent time employed at Acme Sheet Metal before opening his own independen­t sheet metal shop. He worked alongside his grandfathe­r to build several of the homes located on Houde Road in Eliot, ME before building his own house in South Berwick. Fred married Andrea Gagnon on May 16, 1970 and together they raised three sons.

He loved spending time with his siblings, keeping a vegetable garden, and playing cards. He dutifully cared for Andrea as she struggled with the effects of Parkinson’s Disease and dementia, even as he himself began to develop Alzheimer’s Disease.

Fred is predecease­d by his wife as well as brothers Norman, Richard (Dickie), and Donald. He is survived by his children: Lionel of Somerswort­h, Anthony (Tony) & wife Stefanie of Tennessee, and Ryan & wife Suzi of South Berwick; as well as four siblings: Paul & wife Frances of Dover, Doris Swiezynski of Fremont, Henry & wife Cecile of Eliot, and Andrew & wife Jeanne of Eliot.

A celebratio­n of life will take place Saturday, January 13th at 3p at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness, 14 Dennett Road, Kittery, Maine. Refreshmen­ts will be provided after the service.
