Theater, murder mystery and a scavenger hunt for dogs

Throw on your winter boots and head out this weekend on the Seacoast for some entertainm­ent. Seacoast native Gemma Soldalti brings “The Poor Rich” to the Players' Ring, The Dance Hall has a Winter Film weekend planned, check out a murder mystery at the Rochester Opera House or bring your dog to the Fox Run Mall for a Sensory Scavenger Hunt.

‘The Poor Rich’ at the Players’ Ring

What: Seacoast native Gemma Soldati brings her latest solo show to the Players' Ring Theatre for three night. Behold the mischief that runs our world in this unadultera­ted examinatio­n of power, absurdly invented with the spirit of pure imaginatio­n from award-winning clown and teaching artist.

When: Friday, Jan. 19 and Saturday, Jan. 20 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.

Winter Film Weekend: Family Movie Night at The Dance Hall

What: The Dance Hall is collaborat­ing with film makers to screen a documentar­y and several art films across Saturday and Sunday focusing on climate science and oceanograp­hy as well themes of isolation, love and loss. To keep things fun, the weekend will launch with a family-friendly movie.

When: Friday, Jan. 19 from 7-8:30 p.m.

‘In the Garden of Z’ at NHTP

What: Certainly, one of the most significan­t and troubling stories of the past year has been the War in Ukraine. Latvian immigrant, Jelizaveta Robinson, shares her perspectiv­e on how such a terrible war came to be – and came to be supported by so many – by exploring the concept and history of Rashism.

‘The Mystery of the Murder at the Murder Mystery: Tantrum at the Opera’ at the Rochester Opera House

What: The infamous murder mystery with a 23-year history in Rochester is back – and taking over the Opera House stage (and City Hall)! Fan favorites Dixon DaCooter and the Lilac City Angels are back, and bringing along a cast of zany characters in a limited run of this interactiv­e murder mystery.

Gunning & Cormier at The Word Barn

What: Two Canadian roots singer-songwriter­s have finally done what everyone has wanted for years. Dave Gunning and J.P. Cormier have released their first album together filled with original songs and rare covers with lush guitars and tight harmonies.

Sensory Scavenger Hunt at the Mall at Fox Run

What: Join us for a fun post-holiday sensory experience that will put a big smile on your dog's face. And when your dog is happy, you are happy, right?
