- By Amy Lavalley

Valparaiso police are investigating a residential entry reported Sunday night and are working to determine whether the incident is related to others that have also occurred in the city.

Police were called around 6:30 p.m. Sunday to the 800 block of Hampton Circle after a resident there reported an unknown man entered her apartment, according to a release. The man fled after the tenant confronted him and the tenant told police she chased the man from her home and he last was seen running south toward the railroad tracks in the area.

The man was described as a white, 6 feet 1 inch tall; 200 pounds; between 30 and 40 years old with brown hair. The tenant said the man had a skinny build despite a larger stomach and was wearing blue jeans, a blue hooded sweatshirt and jacket and a dark face covering.

Police don’t know if the man’s actions are related in some way to other incidents that have occurred, “however the investigation into all reports with similar elements is ongoing,” according to the release.

Police continue to seek assistance in identifying the man or others who may be committing acts reported to police. Police are asking citizens to contact the Valparaiso Police Department at 219462-2135 if they see any suspicious people, vehicles or acts near or around their homes.

“Continue to maintain your awareness and ensure all doors and windows are locked, lighting is working properly, and remain observant for any odd circumstances,” police said. “We thank our citizens for their partnership and cooperation as we work toward keeping our community safe.”
