Crew make MLS Cup title game

Artur scored in the 59th minute and the Columbus Crew advanced to the MLS Cup title game with a 1-0 victory over the visiting New England Revolution on Sunday in the Eastern Conference final.

The third-seeded Crew will face the winner of the Western Conference final Monday between the defending champion Seattle Sounders and Minnesota United.

The Crew will host the title game Saturday.

“We’re one step away,” Crew coach Caleb Porter said. That’s what I keep going back to. The job’s not done.”

A limited number of fans were on hand at MAPFRE Stadium.

■ Son Heung-min and Harry Kane combined again as they both scored for Premier League leader Tottenham in a 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the north London derby. It was a wonder goal from Son that put Spurs in front in the 13th minute. Freed down the left by Kane, the South Korean cut inside and curled a brilliant 25-yard (meter) strike into the top corner. Son returned the favor to tee up Kane to smash in from close range off the underside of the crossbar in first-half stoppage time as Tottenham returned to first place. Tottenham and Liverpool both have 24 points, but Tottenham leads on goal differenti­al.

Auto racing: Sergio Perez earned his first career Formula One victory in his 190th race and the first by a Mexican driver since Pedro Rodriguez won the Belgian GP in June 1970 with a win in the Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain. F1 season champ Lewis Hamilton missed the race after testing positive for COVID-19 last week.

College football: Alabama was No. 1 for the fifth week in a row and extended its streak of consecutiv­e poll appearance­s to 210, the third longest in the history of The AP poll. The Crimson Tide were the unanimous No. 1 for the third straight week. ... South Alabama fired coach Steve Campbell a day after a shutout loss to rival Troy. Campbell went 9-26 in three seasons.

Golf: Angela Stanford won her home LPGA Tour event, closing with a 4-under 67 for a two-stroke victory at the Volunteers of America Classic in The Colony, Texas. ... South Africa’s Christiaan Bezuidenho­ut won for the second straight week on the European Tour, cruising to a five-shot victory at South African Open.

NBA: First-year Rockets coach Stephen Silas announced that G James Harden didn’t participat­e in the team’s first practice of training camp because of the league’s COVID-19 protocols. Harden, who was expected to take part in an individual workout at the team’s facility later, posted pictures on Instagram over the weekend that showed him attending rapper Lil Baby’s birthday party in Atlanta without wearing a face mask. The NBA required players to quarantine at home this week other than testing at team facilities, individual workouts and essential activities such as grocery shopping.

Tennis: Dennis Ralston, a five-time Grand Slam doubles champ who was one of the initial players signed to the World Championsh­ip Tennis tour in the 1960s and a member of the sport’s Hall of Fame, died Sunday in Austin, Texas after a battle with cancer. He was 78.
