H. Blandenah Black was born March 29, 1933 and reared in Chicago, IL. She passed away Thursday, December 3, 2020. H. Blandenah Black accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She graduated from Du Sable High School in 1950. She matriculat­ed at Wilberforc­e University on a scholarshi­p from the African Methodist Episcopal Church and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1954. Shortly thereafter she married the love of her life James Robert Black Jr. and settled in Gary, IN and from this union four children were born. She became a schoolteac­her completed her master’s and taught at Williams School for over thirty years. She was a faithful and active member of First African Methodist Episcopal Church in Gary, IN for over fifty years. Preceded in death by her husband, James R. Black Jr. and son, James R. Black III (Lynette). She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Brigitte, Geoffrey (Terri), Gregory (Rebecca) and grandchild­ren, James Williams, Christophe­r and Sydney Black and a host of family and friends. Visitation Thursday, December 10, 2020 from noon to 6:30 PM at Guy & Allen Chapel 2959 W. 11th Avenue. A memorial service will be held later in 2021. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to First AME Church Baber Youth Center Ministry.
