Stone, Bertha

Bertha Stone departed this life for her heavenly home, January 6, 2021 at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas. Bertha Moore Stone was born October 29, 1926 to the late Paul and Beola (Whitten) Moore in Earle, Arkansas. She and her twin Bessie were the 6th and 7th child of 9, Paul Jr., Jessie, Clarence, Annie, Josephine, James, and John Moore. Bertha married George in 1945. To this union 7 children were born, Patricia, George, Donny, Sandra, Pamela, Kenneth, and Keith Stone. George relocated his family to Gary in 1952 after several of his siblings also made the move. She was employed at United States Steel Corporation for 10 years at the Coke plant. She often spoke of her time there being one of the first women to work on the battery at the Coke Plant. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, George Stone, Sisters, Annie (Moore) Nichols, Jessie (Moore) Davis, Josephine (Moore) Peyton, and brothers, James Moore, Paul Moore Jr., Clarence Moore. She leaves to cherish her memory 7 children, Patricia (Cleve) Johnson, George (Loan) Stone, Donny Stone, and Sandra Erhardt all of Las Vegas, NV.; Pamela Davenport of West Covina CA; Kenny (Kathy) Stone, Merrillville, IN; and Keith Stone of Gary, IN., her sister Bessie (Moore) Lewis of Cleveland, Oh; her brother John (Amanda) Moore of Delano, CA., 16 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren and 14 Great-Great Grandchildren. A host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends. Interment at Oak Hill Cemetery.
