A Merrillville man held his knee down on his girlfriend’s neck and shot at her after a fight where she refused to clean their house for his friends, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Kobe Tyrie Williams, 20, was charged Tuesday with several felonies including attempted murder, according to Lake Superior Court records.

Police were called just before 1:30 p.m. Sunday to a home on the 1700 block of W. 86th Lane where a bullet shattered the front door’s glass. Standing outside, the homeowner pointed to a woman who told police she had been chased and attacked by Williams, her boyfriend, charges allege.

An officer told Williams, who was bleeding heavily from a stab wound to his armpit, to come outside, documents said. He was transported to Franciscan Health Crown Point, documents state. He was “uncooperative,” according to police.

Inside the hospital, Williams talked on his cellphone, refused to give it up for evidence and got angry at the police officer for taking it away, charges state. He continued to threaten the officer, saying he was trained in mixed martial arts, documents said.

The woman told police since they started dating last year, Williams beat her more than 20 times, charges state. He also threatened to kill her and had pointed a gun at her multiple times, the affidavit states. She showed pictures of bruises, a bloody eye and a video where Williams allegedly pushed a gun into her leg, documents allege.

“You know if I do this, it can go off,” he said in the video, according to police.

Earlier that day, they got into a 30-minute argument when she declined to clean the house after he invited friends over, charges state. Williams pushed the woman into the wall, chased her around the bed, then pinned her with his knee on her side on the ground, records allege. Her face turned red and she couldn’t breathe, briefly passing out, she told police.

“(Expletive), I will kill you,” Williams said, according to the woman.

When she regained consciousness, she started to grab her things, afraid he would destroy it, charges allege. Williams shoved her again against the wall and chased her around the dining room table as she threw chairs down trying to block his path, documents allege.

He held a gun to her head and she picked up a knife from the table. When he pushed her, she panicked and the blade went into his armpit, she told police. She dropped the knife and pleaded with Williams to let her take him to the hospital, documents state. As she walked to the door, he shot at her with the gun once or twice, she said.

A relative who was on the phone with the woman later told police she heard Williams say, “I’m going to blow your head off,” taunting her to stab him, then followed by one or two shots, the affidavit states.

Police later recovered a bullet casing in the living room, charges state.

Magistrate Kathleen Sullivan set bond at $10,000 cash surety, which was posted Wednesday.

Williams made his first court appearance Thursday morning. His next court date is April 28.

He was charged with attempted murder, criminal confinement, domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury, domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon, strangulation, pointing a firearm and two counts of intimidation, records show.
