At his monthly Tuesday Talks, Crown Point Mayor David Uran announced his acceptance of a new job as head of the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority for Northwest Indiana — and his plan to step down as the city’s Mayor next month in order to focus on his new role.

“There were more than 160 applicants which came from a search firm in Florida,” said Uran, who will be the Executive Director of the SSCVA. “I was a little surprised, but was excited for the opportunity.”

Uran said he is hoping to draw tourism to the area the same way he has done it in Crown Point with the addition of sports and family-type activities such as bike trails.

The Erie Lackawanna Trail is expected to eventually connect with Hebron.

“I’ve done it here and now I’ll have the chance to do it regionally,” he said.

He told the crowd at the CP Coworking facility his last day as Mayor of Crown Point will be in early June.

A Democratic caucus of the city’s precinct committeepersons will be held within 30 days to determine his successor.

“I hate to see him go,” said resident Chuck Kolar. “He’s done a good job.”

At the event, Uran talked about road improvements which will eventually improve their quality of life.

He also mentioned Bulldog Park in Crown Point, which will offer concerts, Farmers Markets and more events this summer.

Entertainment Supervisor Diana Bosse said the concert series starts on June 2, with Bonfire headlining from 6 to 8 p.m. The series continues through Sept. 29. More information about upcoming events is available at www.crownpoint.in.gov.

The Crown Point Library will offer walking and trolley tours of historic Crown Point Square. For more information about the library contact crownpointlibrary.org.

The Farmers Market will start May 28 and continue every Saturday through September 24, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Bulldog Park in Crown Point. Free movies will start June 17 with “The Little Mermaid” at Bulldog Park. Concessions will be available.

“There’s something for everyone,” Uran said.
