■ Angels: The Anaheim City Council has voted to cancel the sale of Angel Stadium to Angels owner Arte Moreno amid a political scandal that led the mayor to resign. The unanimous vote Tuesday directed the city attorney to void a 2020 agreement to sell the city-owned ballpark and 151 acres as part of a plan to develop the land around it. “The vote follows the May 16 notice of a federal investigation into former mayor Harry Sidhu stemming from actions he may have taken related to the stadium site proposal,” the city said in a statement. Mayor Pro Tem Trevor O’Neil said the stadium proposal was evaluated and approved on its merits. “However knowing that there may have been an element of corruption that brought the final product to us, we cannot move forward in good conscience,” he said. Sidhu, whose resignation took effect Tuesday, hasn’t been charged with a crime. His lawyer, Paul S. Meyer, said in a statement Monday that the stadium negotiations were lawful. “Mayor Harry Sidhu has always, as his foremost priority, acted in the best interests of the City of Anaheim, and he does so today,” Meyer said.
Yankees: Giancarlo Stanton is going on the injured list for the fourth straight season. Stanton was placed on the 10-day IL with a strained right calf Wednesday as the ailing Yankees made a flurry of roster moves less than an hour before their series finale against the Orioles. The Yankees put struggling reliever Jonathan Loáisiga on the 15-day IL, retroactive to Mondy, with right shoulder inflammation — the latest blow to a depleted bullpen that had shined most of the season. Left fielder Joey Gallo was reinstated from the COVID19 list and was in the starting lineup at DH. The 32-yearold Stanton left Tuesday night’s 7-6, 11-inning win over the Orioles in the seventh and had an MRI on Wednesday. He’s hitting .285 with 11 HRs and 35 RBIs for the Yankees, who began the night with the best record in the majors at 30-13. Stanton, the NL MVP in 2017 while with the Marlins, played in 139 games last year for the Yankees, his highest total since 2018. Since 2011, Stanton has been on the IL in all but the 2014, 2017 and 2018 seasons.
■ Braves: OF Ronald Acuña Jr. was scratched from the lineup shortly before the Braves’ home game against the Phillies with right quadriceps tightness. Acuña awoke feeling sore and tested out his leg by running on the field before deciding to skip the game. He’s hitting .292 with two HRs, eight RBIs and eight stolen bases in 65 at-bats since returning from reconstructive right knee surgery April 28. The two-time All-Star and 2018 NL rookie of the year missed five games recently with right groin tightness.
■ Pirates, Rockies: Rookie Jack Suwinski hit a tying three-run HR in the sixth and Josh VanMeter followed with a three-run HR in the seventh to break open the game as the Pirates rallied past the visiting Rockies 10-5. It was the Pirates’ 10th comeback victory of the season. C.J. Cron hit his 12th HR for the Rockies to pull him into a tie for the NL lead with Dodgers star Mookie Betts . ... The Rockies placed OF Kris Bryant on the 10-day IL with back soreness. This is Bryant’s second stint on the IL this season due to back issues. Bryant, a former NL MVP and rookie of the year while with the Cubs, missed nearly a month after initially tweaking the back in late April.
■ Twins: RHP Joe Ryan was placed on the COVID list, bumping the surging rookie from his upcoming turn. The 25-year-old Ryan (5-2, 2.28 ERA) was scheduled to pitch Thursday against the Royals. Manager
