Independence Day Weekend deadlines for PDN
First off, I want to wish everyone a Happy Independence Day Weekend coming up. Be safe and enjoy.
I will get the honor of having my soon-to-be 96-year-old mom with me this week and the next, so she’ll get to experience the Fourth of July here for the first time.
I will have a story in Thursday’s edition talking about all the Independence Day Weekend events happening.
Because Independence Day falls on Monday as Memorial Day did, The
Poteau Daily News will have some holiday deadlines for the Saturday edition and next Tuesday’s edition — both of which will have to be printed on Friday.
I will be putting the Saturday edition together on Thursday, so the deadline for funeral homes to get obituaries to me and for anyone else wanting to get something put into the Saturday edition will be 2 p.m. Thursday.
The deadline for obituaries and anything else for next Tuesday’s edition will be 2 p.m. Friday.
Also, PDN will be closed Monday in observance of the Fourth of July. You citizens also will not get any mail delivered on this day as post offices will be closed along with banks, city halls, libraries and the LeFlore County Court House.

Beginning with next Tuesday’s edition, PDN will publish in five editions our “Best of the Best” ballot for you to vote on your favorite individual, restaurants and businesses.
The ballot will publish in next Tuesday’s edition as well as July 7, 14, 21 and 26.
The deadline to help sponsor the ballot is Thursday. To get your advertisements/sponsorships in, get with PDN Advertising Representatives Sierra Bishop (advertising@ poteaudailynews.com) or Tabitha Wilcox (twilcox@ poteaudailynews.com) or call them at (918) 6473188.
Another PDN promotion will be the 2022 Medical Directory, which will publish as a booklet to be an insert in the July 26 edition.
To get your advertisements/sponsorships in, get with Sierra or Tabitha.
Also, I plan on reaching out to some individuals to see if they would like to contribute with written pieces to the 2022 Medical Directory. If you are interested submitting a write-up for the 2022 Medical Directory, get with me by telephone at (918) 647-3188, Ext. 30 or by e-mail at editor@ poteaudailynews.com.
Well, the Oklahoma Sooners came just a bit short in getting as diamond sweep of national championships. After the OU softball team won the Women’s College World Series earlier this month, the OU baseball team got denied the Men’s College World Series title by the Mississippi Rebels on Sunday at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Neb. However, national runner-up isn’t too bad, considering there were 62 others who did not reach the CWS finals.
Congratulations to the Colorado Avalanche, winning their first Stanley Cup Final and hoisting the coveted trophy Sunday night, knocking off the two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning. It was the first Stanley Cup for the Avs since 2001.
