Razorbacks race in finals on last day of USATF Championsh­ips

EUGENE, Ore. — Final day action at the USATF Championsh­ips involved a pair of finalists for the Arkansas program. Logan Jolly and Katie Izzo competed in the 3,000-meter steeplecha­se and 5,000-meter run at Hayward Field on Sunday.

Jolly clocked a time of 9:46.91 to finish 11th in the steeplecha­se final in the same venue she produced a pair of Arkansas school records during the NCAA Championsh­ips earlier this month.

Izzo, another Arkansas alum, finished 17th in the 5,000-meter final with a time of 16:13.05.

Arkansas alum Kiara Parker raced in the semifinal of the 200-meter, posting a time of 23.17 in the second of two heats for eighth place, finishing 16th overall.

The weekend was productive for the Razorbacks with three athletes with ties to the Arkansas program advancing to the World Championsh­ips — Britton Wilson and Shamier Little in the 400-meter hurdles and Sandi Morris in the pole vault.

Other Razorback qualifiers for the World Championsh­ips include Tina Sutej of Slovenia in the pole vault and Dominique Scott in the 10,000-meter for South Africa.

Cindy Sember of Great Britain, who trains in Fayettevil­le with Razorback associate head coach Chris Johnson, won the 100-meter hurdles at the UK Athletics Championsh­ips in Manchester with a time of 12.56 to qualify for the World Championsh­ips.

Razorback Tre’Bien Gilbert raced 110-meter hurdles semifinals at Hayward Field, where he had a time of 13.51 seconds.

Gilbert, racing in the second semifinal with Trey Cunningham and Devon Allen, finished fifth in the heat and was 11th overall. Three collegians finished ahead of him, Cunningham of Florida State (13.09), Louisiana State University’s Eric Edwards (13.29) and Iowa’s Joshua Braverman (13.43).

Male world championsh­ip qualifiers with ties to the Arkansas program currently total six athletes from five different countries. The Jamaica Championsh­ips finish on Sunday with Razorback alum Omar McLeod racing in the 110-meter hurdles.

Current Razorback Ayden Owens-Delerme will represent Puerto Rico in the decathlon while Arkansas alums who have qualified for the World Championsh­ips include Kemar Mowatt with Jamaica in the 400-meter hurdles, Andrew Irwin with the United States in the pole vault, and LaQuan Nairn with the Bahamas in the long jump.

Ryan Crouser, an Arkansas volunteer assistant, qualified in the shot put while Jah Nhai Perinchief, who trains in Fayettevil­le with Razorback associate head coach Travis Geopfert, will represent Bermuda in the triple jump.
