Poteau School Board to have two meetings on Monday
The Poteau Public Schools Board of Education will have two meetings Monday, a special one at noon and the regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m., both at the Bert Corr Administration Building.
In the special noon meeting, the board likely will go into an executive session before taking any actions on any resignations and about hiring an interim superintendent to fill the void left once current superintendent Dr. Don Sjoberg retires at the end of the month. His final day in office will be July 29.
As for the regular meeting Monday night, the board also will deal with personnel matters, likely after an executive session takes place. The board will look to approve the resignation of Pansy Kidd Middle School coach/ teacher Scott Gregory and the hiring of PHS science teacher Kody Tackett and Seventh-Eighth Grade Academic Center computers teacher/coach Trevor Shankle.
The board also is expected to discuss real estate matters as well as hiring an interim superintendent should the task not be accomplished in the noon meeting.
The board will look to approve a paper bid and diesel bid for the district, to approve the contract with Save the Children Pre-Kindergarten Services for the 2022-23 school year, to approve purchasing agents for all funds, federal programs and state programs, to approve any activity fundraisers, to approve the PHS wrestling team to participate in the Northwest Justin (Texas) High School Tournament July 28-30, to approve the salary schedules and the extra duty compensation schedule for the 2022-23 school year, to approve surplus items, to approve the renewal of the sublease agreement set up April 1, 2019, between the district and the LeFlore County Public Facilities Authority for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, to approve the current capital improvement plan.
Sjoberg will give the board his final report as Poteau Public Schools superintendent, which is likely to focus on an update of the construction project with the vocational/agriculture building and the renovation of the Bob Lee Kidd Civic Center.
Poteau Public Schools Chief Financial Officer Vallerie Martin will give the board her financial and encumbrance reports.
