Hodgen, Spiro girls pull off upsets; Tigers cruise

The two lower seeds at Wister and the one at LeFlore in the girls winners bracket quarterfin­als earned victories on Tuesday during the LeFlore County Junior High Basketball Tournament.

In Wister, No. 8 seed Spiro defeated top-seeded Howe 33-25. Also, No. 5 Talihina edged No. 4 Pocola 25-23.

Those two teams will collide in the semifinals tonight at the Razorback Event Center at 6:30 p.m.

Here’s a view at the other Day 2 happenings, followed by the Monday first-round scores.

At LeFlore Hodgen 31, Whitesboro 27

Whitesboro led 6-4 at the end of the first quarter before Hodgen took control with a 12-10 halftime lead and a 23-21 edge by the end of the third quarter. Mia Billings led Hodgen with 16 points. Lexie Johnson led Whitesboro with 11 points.

Boys At LeFlore Talihina 62, Wister 14

Talihina led 18-5 at the end of the first quarter, 41-7 at halftime and 50-12 through three quarters.

Kruz Kincannon led the top-seeded Golden Tigers with 10 points, and Kaden Cossey added nine.

Mattox Johnson and Ethan Thornburg both had five points for Wister.

Talihina will face Panama in the semifinals on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the Razorback Event Center.

Hodgen 52, Howe 15

Hodgen led Howe 20-1 at the end of the first quarter, 28-4 at halftime and 43-12 through three quarters. Mason Standifer led Hodgen with 13 points.

Zane McClain and Brett Barnhart each had four points for Howe.

No. 3 Hodgen will meet No. 2 Pocola in the semifinals at 7:45 p.m. on Friday at the Razorback Event Center. Consolatio­n Round 2

Girls

At Wister Fanshawe 45, Bokoshe 2 Arkoma 20, Heavener 19

At LeFlore Monroe 30, Cameron 21 Monroe led 12-5 at the end of the first quarter, 2113 at halftime and 24-15 through three quarters.

Cameron came within six points at one point in the fourth quarter.

Izzy Powers led Monroe with 15 points.

Poteau 38, LeFlore 15

Poteau led 12-7 at the end of the first quarter before shutting out LeFlore to lead 32-7 at halftime and rolling to a 36-10 lead by the end of the third quarter.

Emma Walker led Poteau with nine points while Kenzi Williams added eight. LeFlore’s Temperance Fox had six points.
